As a parent, feeling guilty would have to be one of the top issues all parents face, as we can't be in 100 places giving 110 per cent all the time. Parenthood often comes with some high expectations on how we would like to parent and if we can't live up to our, our family or society’s expectations, we can often be left feeling guilty. So how do we tackle parenting guilt? Today we welcome back Psychologist Expert Dr Carrie Hayward to talk about parenting guilt and how we can lose it. In this episode we discuss:- What is parenting guilt and why it affects parents, particularly new parents, so strongly- Common triggers for parenting guilt that new parents might experience during the early stages of parenthood- How can parents differentiate between healthy self-reflection and destructive parenting guilt?- The pressure to be a perfect parent can be overwhelming. Dr Carrie shares some strategies for managing and reducing perfectionist tendencies that can contribute to guilt- Big parenting decisions, such as the way we feed our baby or teach our little ones to sleep can be a big cause of parenting guilt.
